Position Summary
Pasadena Waldorf School seeks a skilled artist/educator (violinist, violist, or cellist) to join a collaborative team of teachers in our full-participation instrumental music program (~40 students, grades 9-12). The strings teacher will also co-teach the Chamber Ensemble with the High School Music Director. This position is for the 2022-23 school year. Classes begin in late August/early September.
About the Program:
All students take musicianship, chorus, an instrumental ensemble (strings, winds, percussion, or guitar), and music history. There are music electives, including composition & songwriting, offered in 10th through 12th grade. Curricular emphasis in instrumental ensembles is on technique, ensemble playing, applied musicianship, improvisation, sound exploration, and creative work. Repertoire is varied – including custom arrangements, adaptations, improvisations, and original pieces.
About the Strings Component:
The strings meet alone as a section and work with winds and brass in the Chamber Ensemble. From time to time, all students – strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and guitar – meet together as a full ensemble. Student skill level ranges from beginner to advanced.
The ideal candidate is:
an excellent violinist, violist, or cellist, with strong musicianship skills and a passion for teaching high-school aged students.

capable of and interested in arranging music for the ensemble.
enthusiastic about working collaboratively with the high school music director and other faculty.
eager to facilitate creative exploration at all levels of musical ability in an ensemble context.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in music or commensurate professional experience. Preferred: experience teaching in high school, experience working in independent schools
Time Commitment/Schedule: Classes meet twice a week for 55 minutes during the academic year (Sep -June), with 2 performances per year. Meeting times: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:40am-12:35pm. There is a weekly 30-minute music faculty meeting at 11am on Tuesdays. Competitive hourly rates.
